The 2025 Winter Dance! Everyone was talking about it! It was a fun break from our daily school lives to enjoy a Saturday night with all of our friends! But was the dance truly like how it was advertised? Let’s see how the students actually felt, with an interview with Snehal Dogra, a freshman here at Dunlap, sharing her thoughts and opinions on this year’s dance.
1. How well did you think the DJ captured the music taste of our high school students?
The DJ did a pretty good job playing the classic songs our high school students love at the annual Winter Dance. The music choices varied from classics to the latest trending songs we hear on social media. Some choices, however, were only “fun” during the popular parts people knew, while the rest of the song was considered boring and unfamiliar.
2. How was the setting of the dance? Your likes and dislikes?
I personally adored the ambiance of the hall. The lighting was handled very well and, as well as the disco lights, they had set the entire area with. The music wasn’t so overpowering that we had to yell, which was a great asset to actually converse with our friends. People had enough room to walk freely, yet a little more space on the main floor itself wouldn’t have hurt. I didn’t hate anything in particular; I just preferred more classics on the dance floor.
3. How were the drinks at the dance? Do you think that there should’ve been more options?
I only had Sprite there, but judging from what people around me wanted and ordered, there could have been more options. The drinks were properly chilled, so it definitely helped people cool down from the heat. It was also pretty refreshing after singing and dancing for so long, yet I feel as if more options that I know will have more value, like coffee or milkshakes, would definitely lighten up the spirit more.
4. How was the overall vibe and mood? Do you think that the day for the winter dance was a good date or a poorly chosen date?
The overall vibe was pleasant and hype. Everyone seemed to laugh and dance alongside their friends, and also enjoyed the entire vibe of just being carefree. I would’ve expected the “Winter” Dance to be sometime during the peak winter of December or early January, but the choice of it appearing in early February wasn’t entirely surprising.
5. Did you enjoy the winter dance? Was it as expected, under hyped, or overhyped? Why do you feel this way?
I thoroughly enjoyed the dance. I heard this dance was supposed to be much more organized than HoCo and also something most people would typically enjoy going to, and they were proven to be right. The hype was just right in the middle; it wasn’t overhyped to the point it was something everyone thought of constantly, and it wasn’t under hyped that no one really knew about it until the last minute. I would say this was a pretty anticipated dance before Prom.
6. How well did you think that our Student Council prepared the dance?
They did a phenomenal job organizing this whole event. I loved the simple yet authentic feeling of the venue itself, as well as the exceptional job the lights played out to show the absolute vibe of the dance. The decorations were spot-on and were close to what I was imagining as the theme. The effort really shone when you first walked onto the main floor, and it’s safe to say everyone liked it.
7. Would you recommend students going next year?
Yes, I would totally recommend students going next school year! To be honest, everyone generally goes to be with their friends, and as long as they are there, you are guaranteed to have a good time. Additionally, having a couple of drinks and some songs to vibe to for a few hours is definitely worth the ticket. Who would want to miss a moment that high school students anticipate most?
8. What changes would you like to see for next year?
I would definitely recommend having more songs that students can sing throughout and still get a party vibe from. Most of the songs were picked due to the singular part that went viral on social media, yet the rest of the song was just waited out after the famous part was over. I would really recommend providing snacks/food in general; most people came to the dance expecting some food. Even something along the lines of upgraded drinks, like the coffee and milkshakes I mentioned before, would make the dance so much more enjoyable.
